Terms of Service
Last updated: September 19, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Griefy (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Service. Your continued use of the Service after any changes to these Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Description of Service
Griefy is an academic quality-control system that provides educational writing feedback tools, including originality review, AI-writing pattern analysis, citation checking and verification, grammar review, academic tone assessment, structure coaching, and revision guidance. Griefy is a revision aid intended to help students identify potential writing concerns and guide their own corrections. Griefy is not an assignment-completion service and does not guarantee grades, acceptance, or detection outcomes.
3. Eligibility & Account Registration
You must be at least 16 years of age to use the Service. By registering an account, you represent and warrant that you are at least 16 years old and that all registration information you provide is accurate and complete. If you are under 18, you represent that your use of the Service is with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, and that parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account.
4. User Responsibilities
Users are responsible for their own academic work. Griefy is a revision aid, not an assignment-completion service. Users must follow their institution's academic integrity policies and all applicable laws. You are solely responsible for the content you submit and for any consequences of acting on or disregarding feedback provided by the Service.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Griefy to facilitate cheating, plagiarism, or academic misconduct, or to submit work that is not your own original work. In particular, you shall not use the Service to evade institutional plagiarism or AI-detection tools, to disguise AI-generated text as your own original writing, or to misrepresent the origin of any content. Content that violates laws, institutional policies, or the rights of others is prohibited. Griefy reserves the right to refuse, suspend, or terminate access for any violation of this section.
6. Subscriptions & Billing
Griefy offers paid membership plans, including monthly and annual subscriptions. All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., a third-party payment processor, and your use of payment services is also subject to Stripe's terms. By subscribing, you authorize Griefy (via Stripe) to charge your payment method on a recurring basis.
Monthly plans renew automatically each billing cycle until cancelled. You may cancel at any time; cancellation stops future renewals and access continues until the end of the current paid billing period. No overage fees are charged.
Annual plans renew automatically each year until cancelled. You may cancel at any time; cancellation stops future renewals but annual subscriptions run for the full paid term. Annual subscriptions are non-refundable and no pro-rated or partial refunds are provided for cancellations made during a paid year.
Top-up credits (for example, 5,000 words for $2) are one-time, non-subscription purchases and are non-refundable once purchased. Monthly word budgets do not roll over to the next month.
Griefy may change its pricing for new subscribers at any time. Changes to pricing for existing paid subscribers, if any, will be communicated in advance and take effect at the next renewal following notice.
7. Third-Party Processing of Your Content
To provide its analysis, Griefy sends portions of your submitted documents to trusted third-party services. These include an enterprise AI-detection provider for AI-writing pattern analysis, the CrossRef database for citation and reference verification, web-search services for originality (similarity) review, and a large language model for passage-level analysis and rewrite suggestions. By submitting content, you consent to these transfers for the purpose of generating your analysis. Griefy selects reputable providers, but the handling of your content by these third parties is subject to their respective privacy and data-handling practices, over which Griefy has limited control.
8. AI Detection & Analysis Limitations
Griefy's AI-writing pattern analysis and originality review are probabilistic tools. They may produce false positives (flagging human-written text as potentially AI-generated or unoriginal) and false negatives (failing to flag text that is AI-generated or matches other sources). Results are guidance for your review and revision, not proof of authorship, intent, or misconduct. Griefy does not guarantee that papers checked through the Service will pass institutional plagiarism or AI-detection tools, and you should not interpret any result as a guarantee of any outcome.
9. AI Rewriter & Voice Profile
Griefy may generate suggested rewrites and example revisions based on a personal writing ("voice") profile built from your own submissions. Users may not use the AI Rewriter to submit work that is not their own original work, or to disguise AI-generated or plagiarized content as original. Suggested rewrites are provided as guidance for your own revision and do not replace your independent authorship. You remain solely responsible for the final content you submit.
10. Data Retention & Deletion
By default, uploaded documents are retained for 30 days and then automatically deleted, unless you choose a different retention setting. You may manually delete your documents and associated data at any time through the Service. See our Privacy Policy for full details on data handling, storage, and deletion. This section is provided for convenience; the Privacy Policy controls in the event of any conflict regarding personal data.
11. Intellectual Property
You retain all ownership rights in the academic work and content you submit to Griefy. By submitting content, you grant Griefy a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely to provide the Service and generate your analysis. Griefy does not claim ownership of your work. The Griefy name, logo, software, designs, and other Service content are the intellectual property of Griefy and its licensors and may not be copied or used without permission.
12. Account Suspension & Termination
Griefy may suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, including for violations of these Terms, abusive or unlawful conduct, or non-payment. You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends; provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, limitation of liability, and governing law) remain in effect.
13. Service Availability
The Service is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. Griefy does not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or secure access to the Service and may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time without notice. Maintenance, updates, and outages may affect availability.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Griefy provides feedback on a best-effort basis and is not liable for any academic outcomes, grades, detection results, or consequences arising from your use of, reliance on, or inability to use the Service. In no event will Griefy's aggregate liability exceed the amount you paid to Griefy in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim. This limitation applies to all claims, whether based on warranty, contract, tort, or any other legal theory.
15. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to the Service are governed by the laws of the State of [INSERT HOME STATE], United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. You and Griefy agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in [INSERT HOME STATE] for any disputes arising under these Terms.
16. Changes to These Terms
Griefy may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by other reasonable notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you may cancel your subscription and stop using the Service.
17. Contact
