Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 17, 2026
Griefy (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates an academic quality-control system that helps students identify potential writing concerns in their own work. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who processes it on our behalf, and the choices you have. By creating an account and submitting a paper for analysis, you acknowledge that your information is handled as described in this policy.
Information We Collect
- Account information: Your name and email address when you register.
- Uploaded documents: The text of papers you submit for analysis, along with the original filename and project metadata (course, academic level, document type, citation style).
- Derived writing-style profile: When you submit papers, we compute statistical metrics about your writing (such as average sentence length, vocabulary richness, and paragraph structure) to build a personal voice profile. This profile is retained across your papers and used to generate example rewrites in your own voice.
- Usage and analytics data: We track events such as paper submissions, plan selections, and feature usage to operate and improve the service. This data is aggregated and not linked to the content of your documents.
- Billing information: Transaction and subscription details processed by our payment provider (see Third-Party Data Processing below).
How We Use Your Information
- To run originality, AI-pattern, citation, and clarity analysis on the documents you submit and return the results to you.
- To build and maintain your personal writing-style profile so feedback and example rewrites reflect your own voice.
- To manage your account, subscription, and usage limits.
- To provide support and respond to your requests.
- To operate, secure, and improve the service.
We do not use your documents to serve other users, add them to public databases, or train AI models. Your papers are used only to provide analysis to you.
Third-Party Data Processing
To provide analysis, portions of your document text are transmitted to the following providers. By submitting a paper for analysis, you acknowledge that your document content is sent to these services as described below. None of these providers use your documents for model training.
Serper Web Search API
Anonymized text phrases (not full papers) are submitted for originality web verification against online sources.
Copyleaks (AI Detection)
Your full document text is submitted to Copyleaks for AI-authorship probability analysis. Processed under Copyleaks’ privacy policy and not used for model training.
Anthropic (Claude API)
Portions of text are processed by Claude for citation checking, passage-level AI-signal flagging, and AI agent tasks. Processed under Anthropic’s API privacy policy and not used for model training.
CrossRef
Reference metadata (such as DOIs and citation details) is sent to CrossRef to verify that cited sources exist and to detect fabricated references. CrossRef does not receive your full document text.
Stripe
Payment and billing information (such as your email and subscription details) is processed by Stripe to manage subscriptions. Card data is handled directly by Stripe and never passes through or is stored on Griefy’s servers.
When Griefy integrates additional detection services, this policy will be updated with full disclosure of those services.
Data Retention
You control how long your documents are stored. Each project offers three retention options:
- Auto-delete after 30 days (default): uploaded paper content is automatically deleted 30 days after submission.
- Delete after analysis: paper content is removed once the analysis report is generated.
- Keep: documents are retained until you manually delete them.
You can delete any document at any time from Settings. Your derived writing-style profile is retained across papers so your feedback stays consistent; you may request its deletion at any time (see Your Rights). Analysis reports and usage records are retained to track your progress and enforce plan limits.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including access controls and encrypted transmission to our providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your documents and account information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
Age Requirement
Griefy is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 16. By using the service, you confirm that you are at least 16 years old. If you believe a minor has provided us personal information without verifiable parental consent, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you may:
- Request access to or a copy of your personal information.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Delete your papers and documents at any time.
- Download your data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Opt out of analytics tracking where offered by your device or browser.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@griefy.io. We will respond within a reasonable time and may verify your identity before acting on a request.
California Residents (CCPA)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of their personal information. Griefy does not sell or share personal information for monetary or advertising purposes. The disclosure of document text to our analysis providers described above is made to provide the service you requested, not as a “sale” under the CCPA. To exercise your California privacy rights, contact support@griefy.io.
International Users & Data Transfers (GDPR)
If you access Griefy from outside the United States, please be aware that your information, including document text submitted for analysis, is transferred to and processed by providers located in the United States. By using the service and submitting a paper, you acknowledge these transfers. For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we act as the controller of your personal data and rely on your consent (given when you submit a paper) and our legitimate interests in operating the service as the legal bases for processing. You have the rights described above, plus the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise your rights, contact support@griefy.io.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes that affect how we handle your information, we will provide notice through the service or by email before the change takes effect. Continued use of Griefy after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
